Fresh Food Matters is a popular new, healthy, from scratch, takeout food shop in Antigonish, launched by Angela Bowles.
When the restaurant she was working at closed, she decided to become an entrepreneur and follow her passion for “creating healthy from-scratch food”, by selling fresh, healthy food at the local farmers’ markets.
This made her realize that “In a fast-paced world, people are sadly losing the necessary skills and time to create such meals. I saw a real need for what I was doing from my farmers market clientele.” That’s when her brick-and-mortar business Fresh Food Matters was born.
Angela has no shortage of love for her business. “It’s the hardest but most rewarding job. From my truly amazing team to the absolute best customers, I go to work loving what I do.”
Early on Amanda reached out to CBDC NOBL for support, “They helped me simplify things. I’m somewhat dyslexic, and I don’t have a degree in business; heck, I’m a self-taught chef. The whole process can be pretty overwhelming, but they took the time to walk me through financing and where I want to be in the coming years.”
Amanda’s advice for aspiring entrepreneurs is to “Go for it! People fear failure way too much. Would you rather be happy having tried than not tried at all?”
