This 40 hour course will explore features inside the Microsoft Office Suite of programs, including MS Word, Outlook, MS PowerPoint, OneNote and MS Excel that are overlooked or under-utilized by many NS businesses. The components of training can be broken into the following topic areas.

•Navigating and creating/formatting/editing documents in MS Word

•Utilizing Mail Merge feature of MS Word via MS Excel

•Navigating, creating spreadsheets and formulas in MS Excel

•Navigating, creating presentations in MS PowerPoint

•Adding Video and Excel spreadsheets to PowerPoint Presentations

•Navigating, sorting and organizing emails using folders

•Creating Rules and Alerts for special e-mail

•Utilizing calendar options and reminders

•Navigating and creating documents, notes, screenshots in OneNote

•Utilizing OneNote as a digital notebook that you can take where ever you go

•Utilizing Cloud technology with MS Office Suite

 

This course is designed to make participants more productive with their MS Office program usage and more confident with finding necessary shortcuts to help eliminate repetitive tasks.

 

 

 

Learning Outcomes

 

At the completion of this workshop, participants will:

 

•MS Word 2013

oWorking with documents, navigating, editing text and formatting 

oUsing mail merge with MS Excel 2013

•MS Excel 2013

oWorking with cells, rows, and columns 

oEntering data, managing data, and formatting data and cells 

oUsing simple formulas and calculations

•PowerPoint 2013

oCreating presentations and applying themes and layouts to slides 

oEntering, editing, and formatting text and working with objects

oAdding sound, video, transitions, and animation to your presentations

•Outlook 2013

oSetting up, navigating, sending and receiving messages

oAdding Gmail, Hotmail, proprietary email addresses to Outlook

oInserting tables, graphics, and images to emails in Outlook 2013 emails

•OneNote 2013

oSetting up, navigating and storing files

oUtilizing OneNote with internet browsers

•Cloud Technology

Prerequisite

 

Currently employed in a NS business and familiar with using a computer.

Responsibilities

 

The facilitator’s responsibility is to assist the learner in keeping focused on course topics to ensure a successful learning experience, and to facilitate the class agenda, activities, and maintain an adult environment.

The learner’s responsibility is to be prepared for learning activities and to participate in the ongoing process.

 

  • Participation/Preparation 

The learner’s degree of preparation, class attendance, independent homework assignments, and participation in discussions will affect the learner’s level of success in this course.  The learner is expected to participate in class discussions and all group work.  It is assumed that each learner will have read all assigned readings prior to class meetings.  Oral presentations are mandatory.  Learners are responsible for having the appropriate supplies.

 

  • Integrity of Learning Environment

Cell phones, CD players, MP3 players, other portable electronic communicating devices, personal digital assistants (PDAs) or similar devices shall not disrupt class.  If absolutely essential, cell phones may be left in vibrate mode for emergency purposes during regular classes.  In such cases learners are asked to respect the learning environment of their fellow classmates and not answer calls in class.

 

  • Illnesses and Absences

It is the responsibility of the participant to makeup work missed as a result of any absence.

 

Methods of Instruction

 

A variety of methods will be used, including but not limited to:

-          short lectures

-          demonstrations

-          group work

-          online and other research

-          individual and group assignments

-          individual and group projects

 

Evaluation

 

Participants are required to attend and actively participate in 80% of scheduled 10 classes in order to successfully complete this course.
