Sylvie is an associate lawyer at Patterson Law. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Finance from Saint Mary’s University, and a Juris Doctor from Université de Moncton. As a member of Patterson Law’s corporate/commercial group, Sylvie practices proficiently in both French and English in the areas of business and corporate law and wills and estates.
In her session, Sylvie teaches you about the legalities associated with starting and owning your business, including:
• Organizational structures (sole proprietorship, incorporation, partnership, etc.);
• Getting financed;
• Understanding contracts;
• Brand identity;
• Finding the right people (employment matters);
• Liability issues;
• Registrations, licensing and permitting; and
• Resolving legal disputes.
Sylvie’s goal is not to teach you how to be a lawyer, but to help you understand and manage the risks associated with business ownership.
