My professional background has been in the counselling and education fields. I am a self-admitted “Math Nerd” with a twisted sense of humour! Just over 5 years ago I started my own bookkeeping business on a part -time basis working under the wing of the “Queen of Bookkeeping”, Edna Tobey. I began contracting work with her existing client base, using Sage 50, and truly enjoying the logic the numbers provide. I also appreciate the flexibility operating my own business provides me, so I can meet with clients when they have the time, and I can still be available to my family. I absolutely LOVE bookkeeping, weird, I know! I now operate Fortuity Bookkeeping Services full time from my home office and I provide everything from part -time services, quarterly & government remittance assistance, telephone advice, ground-up & Sage One-On-One training, to full Office Management Services for a variety of businesses in Pictou County. I thrive when I am educating my clients, when I am helping them get the most out of their bookkeeping services and learn more efficient ways of doing things. I want my clients to succeed! Teaching new business owners to set up and maintain their own bookkeeping system at CBDC-NOBLis a wonderful way to witness empowerment in action. “Whenever you see a successful business, someone once made a courageous decision” ~Peter F. About Laura MacDougall
I recently attended a Sage 50, 40 hour course being facilitated by Chris Lewis of Chris Lewis Business Solutions. Located and sponsored through NOBL and CBDC New Glasgow.
I found the course and content to be very useful to me in a way that gave me the confidence to start a business plan for a small business in Bookkeeping.
Chris Lewis is very knowledgeable in the field of accounting and business and facilitated the program very well and professional. He gave more than anticipated tips and tricks of the trade which will also be very useful to me being new to the business world.
It is a great opportunity in my opinion to attend such courses being offered; especially for free. These courses can run you anywhere from $1500 to $2500 depending on the institution. I would like to attend more courses like this to keep my skills up to date and to gain more knowledge of the business world.
